女は、髪のめでたからんこそ、人の目立(メタ)つべかンめれ、
人のほど・心ばへなどは、もの言ひたるけはひにこそ、物越しにも知らるれ。
ことにふれて、うちあるさまにも人の心を惑はし、
すべて、女の、うちとけたる寝(イ)もねず、身を惜(ヲ)しとも思ひたらず、
堪(タ)ふべくもあらぬわざにもよく堪へしのぶは、ただ、色を思ふがゆゑなり。
まことに、愛著(アイヂヤク)の道、その根深く、源(ミナモト)遠し。
六塵(ロクヂン)の楽欲(ゲウヨク)多しといへども、みな厭離(オンリ)しつべし。
その中に、たゞ、かの惑ひのひとつ止(ヤ)めがたきのみぞ、
老いたるも、若きも、智(チ)あるも、愚かなるも、変る所なしと見ゆる。
されば、女の髪すぢを縒(ヨ)れる綱には、大象(ダイザウ)もよく繋(ツナ)がれ、
女のはける足駄(アシダ)にて作れる笛には、秋の鹿必ず寄るとぞ言ひ伝へ侍る。
自ら戒(イマシ)めて、恐るべく、慎むべきは、この惑(マド)ひなり。
Modern translation
Women with beautiful hair stand out, but people's goodness can be generally understood by the way they say things.
Most women are seducing men just by standing.
